Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Resignation Announcement

Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, marking the end of a distinguished political journey of nearly fifty years, has decided to step down from his position. On May 28, during a breakfast meeting at his official Bengaluru residence, he informed his Cabinet colleagues about his resignation. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, who was present at the meeting, confirmed the news.

Following this, Siddaramaiah visited the Governor’s office at Lok Bhavan to formally submit his resignation to Prabhushankar, the special secretary of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who was away on a private trip.

At a press conference thereafter, Siddaramaiah reflected on his political rise from humble beginnings and expressed gratitude to leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge. He proudly stated that his government had fulfilled all its promises. He criticized the Opposition and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for spreading misinformation and blamed the central government for Karnataka's revenue deficit. Despite resigning, he vowed to remain active in state politics and continue opposing communal forces.

During the breakfast meeting, Siddaramaiah revealed that the Congress High Command had asked him to step down. He spoke about the successes and challenges of his second term and thanked the Cabinet ministers for their support. Congress sources indicated that a Legislative Party meeting to select his likely successor is expected on May 29, 2026.
