Police Complaint Against Mamata Banerjee for Public Remarks

On June 3, 2026, advocate Rinki Chatterjee Singh lodged a police complaint against Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee at the Cyber police station in Siliguri, West Bengal. The complaint accuses Banerjee of making statements critical of constitutional institutions and linking the Union government to a political killing in Bangladesh, which Singh alleges threaten national sovereignty and public order.

According to the complaint, Banerjee used public speeches, political platforms, and media interactions to make provocative and inflammatory remarks about institutions like the Election Commission and the armed forces involved in the recent Assembly elections. Singh claims these statements questioned the integrity and neutrality of these bodies, sowing distrust among the public towards the state machinery.

The advocate also pointed to a Trinamool event held on June 2 in Kolkata, where Banerjee reportedly claimed to have insider knowledge of discussions with the Ministry of Home Affairs. She allegedly linked the Indian government and Union Home Minister to a political killing in Bangladesh, accusations deemed damaging to India’s image and international relations.

Singh argued that Banerjee’s statements appeared aimed at gaining political advantage but risked inciting public disorder and harming diplomatic ties between India and Bangladesh. The Trinamool Congress has yet to respond to these allegations.

This is not the first complaint against Banerjee by Singh, who earlier filed a case on May 20, accusing the leader of hurting Hindu religious sentiments through her remarks during 2025 and 2026 events.
